Here we are, just days away from the 2012 NFL Draft and with it starting Round 1 on the 26th at 7pm CST, a Thursday night by the way, it will continue with Rounds 2 and 3 at 6pm CST on Friday, and finishing up Rounds 4-7 on Saturday starting at 11am CST, and doesn't that sound like a lost weekend. It does to me... and I'm smiling just thinking about it. Go Pack Go! Now, do the Green Bay Packers, sitting with a full 12 draft picks, sound like a team that's in great position to be going on trading up a few times to get their specific draft choices. Otherwise, you're subscribing to the idea that the Packers are needing all 12 draft picks to fill out the bottom of their roster, which last time I checked, really didn't need much filling out, maybe 6 roster spots available for this year's rookie class to occupy. The Packers need some starting quality picks. Now that GM Ted Thompson has started to stretch his football philosophy out into new directions, sitting comfortably in his throne-chair he could just go on and trade away some picks to move up in the draft's pecking order. Thompson can't trade away any of the 4 compensation picks, so he might just surprise us Packer Fans by jumping all around the draft order and get us fans excited to check out the new players at the opening of mini & training camps. So here's some mock draft's from various sources that give out some reasoned analysis on what the GM Ted Thompson and the Green Bay Packers could be planning for this year's NFL Draft. BeerKid - Always Pack 4 Life! 28. Chandler Jones, DE/OLB, Syracuse - At 6' 5" 265 pounds he might be able to play end or outside linebacker. The Pack need help at outside linebacker and defensive end and Jones has the athletic ability to play outside linebacker in a 34 defense or if he bulked up a little, could also play end. The Packers need a better pass rush and current starting OLB Frank Zombo isn't getting it done. Nick Perry, DE, USC - I’ve had Perry stuck at the Patriots for a while, but I’m starting to think he could drop at least one more spot, where Green Bay will nab him immediately. Perry is a very versatile pass-rusher who has the size, strength, and athleticism to fill the need of a second beast on the edge, opposite of Clay Matthews. Green Bay could get their future center or address corner here, but landing Perry could be the finishing touch on an already solid pass-rush. Whitney Mercilus, DE, Illinois - It looks like Mercilus is going to end up being a 3-4 pass rusher at the next level. I wouldn’t be shocked if he was selecting by a 4-3 team that wanted to use him strictly in a pass rushing role early on in his career. But if he is going to be a first round selection you will want the player to be an every down back. For Mercilus to be that he will need to be a 3-4 OLB in my opinion. 59. Josh Chapman, DT/NT, Alabama 90. Antonio Allen, SS, South Carolina New NFL Draft http://newnfldraft.com/nfl-mock-draft-first-round-picks-25-32/ __________________________________________ 28. Shea McClellin, OLB, Boise State - The Packers' pass defense was vulnerable all year and finished last in the NFL's regular season statistics, allowing 299.8 yards per game through the air. Green Bay had only 29 sacks this year, and no Packers defender was able to total seven sacks. Green Bay is supposedly hot for McClellin and sent a huge contingent to his pro day. That makes a lot of sense as he is a perfect fit in the team's defense on the opposite side of Clay Matthews. McClellin is a Packers-type player as he is a pure football player. McClellin put on 12 pounds from the Senior Bowl to the Combine, and even with that extra weight, he had a sparkling time of 4.62 in the 40-yard dash. At 6-foot-3, 260-pounds, McClellin is big enough to be a 3-4 outside linebacker, but he is probably too small to play defensive end in a 4-3 defense. McClellin should, at least, hold his weight, if not add some more to be an edge rusher in a 3-4. The versatile athlete could play some inside linebacker in a 3-4 as well. McClellin started off this season extremely well with a huge performance against Georgia, recording six tackles with 2.5 sacks. He dominated highly-touted Bulldogs offensive lineman Cordy Glenn. McClellin has good technique with a fabulous motor, production and consistency. He recorded 46 tackles with seven sacks, eight tackles for a loss, a forced fumble and a blocked kick in 2011. McClellin has a nice repertoire of pass-rushing moves. He is quick off the edge and has great instincts that allow him to be very disruptive. McClellin had 9.5 sacks with 13.5 tackles for a loss, 30 tackles, one interception and one forced fumble in 2010. Aside from playing as a traditional defensive end, he lined up as both a stand-up rush linebacker and an inside linebacker for Boise State. 59. Derek Wolfe, DT, Cincinnati - In 2011, Green Bay tied for 27th in sacks in the NFL with 29 on the regular season. The Packers have to upgrade their pass rush and help out their secondary for 2012. Finding some pass-rushing help for Clay Matthews could allow Green Bay to make a big postseason run next year. Adding a five-technique with some pass-rushing ability would be a good idea. Wolfe (6-4, 286) was a steady pass rusher for the Bearcats. He has good speed to blow by offensive linemen, and serious power to rip off of blocks to bust into the backfield. This season, Wolfe produced well with 70 tackles, 21.5 tackles for a loss, 9.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. He was extremely disruptive at the point of attack and overwhelmed offensive linemen. Wolfe recorded nine total sacks between his sophomore and junior seasons, but he took his play to another level in 2011. Wolfe is a sleeper prospect who could provide a big pay off in the NFL. He has the flexibility to play the five-technique in a 3-4 defense, or stay inside in a 4-3. Wolfe had a quality showing at the Combine. 90. Josh Norman, CB, Coastal Carolina - The Packers could use some depth at cornerback. Perhaps the player who laid claim to be being the top prospect at the East-West Shrine practices was Norman. All week, he had dominant practices that showcased him producing some splash plays. At the Tuesday practice, Norman made an acrobatic interception reaching behind his head as he leapt into the air. The next day's practice saw him record two diving interceptions. Norman had good coverage all week and did not allow separation. That impressive performance made him a late addition to the Senior Bowl. The 6-foot, 197-pounder has the size and athleticism to go along with speed and quickness. He clocked a 4.56 in the 40-yard dash at the Combine. In his collegiate career, Norman totaled 13 interceptions with 35 passes broken up, four forced fumbles, four blocked kicks and 196 tackles. He broke out with eight interceptions as a sophomore in 2009. Norman has the physical skill set to potentially be a starter in the NFL. Charlie Campbell - Walters Football http://walterfootball.com/draft2012charlie_1.php __________________________________________ 28. Whitney Mercilus, DE/OLB, Illinois - It's not exactly an earth-shattering revelation that the Packers need help across from Clay Matthews. Erik Walden and the other rush linebackers were largely ineffective last year. Perhaps Green Bay's pass defense will improve in the wake of an upgraded pass rush. Whitney Mercilus could go as high as No. 16 to the Jets (more probable to the Chargers at No. 18), so Ted Thompson gets a steal. 59. LaMichael James, RB, Oregon - It's scary to think how much more potent Green Bay's offense would be with someone like LaMichel James as an option. 90. Jared Crick, DE/DT, Nebraska - Green Bay could look at a five-tech early in the 2012 NFL Draft. Jarius Wynn isn't bad, but he's not very good either, while Mike Neal can't seem to stay healthy. Neal struggled since coming back anyway. 123. Coryell Judie, CB, Texas A&M - There aren't many cornerbacks in this draft class who fit Green Bay's system. One of the rare ones who actually does is Coryell Judie.The Packers will have to spend a high selection on a corner soon. Charles Woodson, 36 at some point during the 2012 campaign, isn't going to be around much longer. 132. George Iloka, S, Boise State - The Packers had major issues in their secondary all year, particularly at safety, as Charlie Peprah was torched on a weekly basis. Nick Collins may never play again, which is very unfortunate. 133. Tom Compton, OT, South Dakota - Green Bay needs to think about acquiring tackle depth because of Derek Sherrod's leg injury is putting his 2012 season in jeopardy. Walt - Walters Football http://walterfootball.com/draft2012_1.php __________________________________________ 28. Chandler Jones, DE/LB, Syracuse - The Packers have got to turn up their defensive pressure if they want to compete in their tough division again. It is also notable that the other three teams in the division will be looking to significantly help their offensive lines in this draft. 59. Brandon Thompson, DE/DT, Clemson - The Packers may opt to go a few different ways, but Thompson is a great value here that will improve the run and pass defense as a whole. 90. Brandon Boykin, CB, Georgia Draft Maven http://www.draftmaven.com/mock-draft/2012-mock-draft-round-1 __________________________________________ 28. Jerel Worthy, DT, Michigan State - The Packers stay true to the value of their draft grades, and Worthy is likely to be the highest-rated player available at No. 28. He'd bounce outside to defensive end in Green Bay's 3-4, and hopefully make everyone in Titletown forget Cullen Jenkins. Don Banks - CNNSI http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/don_banks/04/18/2012.nfl.mock.draft.6/index.html __________________________________________ 28. Nick Perry, DE, USC - Perry led the Pac-12 with 9.5 sacks and he decided leave USC early to take his talents to the NFL. Clay Matthews is a stud and A.J. Hawk is serviceable, but the Packers do not have much other than that at linebacker. 59. Jayron Hosley, CB, Virginia Tech - Running back is also a possibility, but Green Bay needs a youth movement in the secondary. Whitney Mercilus, OLB, Illinois - The Packers could look at a corner or 5-tech DE here, but I think they might reach a bit for a pass rusher. Mercilus is a slight reach, but he fills the Packers biggest need. He’s an accomplished pass rusher, who takes good pursuit angles. Teaming him up with Matthews would be a major boost for this defense. Given this being a bit of a reach, don’t be surprised if the Packers look to move up for one of the bigger name pass rushers. 59. Jared Crick, DE, Nebraska 90. Chase Minnifield, CB, UVA Steve Shoup - Fan Speak http://fanspeak.com/nfldraft/2012/04/16/2012-nfl-mock-draft-round-1-17-32-416/ __________________________________________ 28. Vinny Curry, DE/OLB, Marshall - Los pash rushers van a volar en ésta edición del Draft y los Packers no pueden dejar pasar a Vinny Curry con ésta elección. Shea McClellin, DE/OLB, Boise State - Here is another pick that everybody seems to think is a lock, but I just don't really understand. Mainly because I just don't get the fascination with Shea McClellin. McClellin is another case of how people can get so wrapped up in a guys Intangibles, that they ignore serious flaws in a players game. He is not very strong, and has short arms, so he struggles to get off blocks, and stop the run. He also is a limited athlete, who looked much better because of the competition he faced in college. McClellin is a very solid, but very average player, lacking that upside, and star power that you should be looking for in the 1st Round. There are plenty of other guys the Packers could look at here, like Illinois' Whitney Mercilus, but everybody seems to think McClellin is the man. 59. Jayron Hosley, CB, Virginia Tech) - Despite the names they have, the Cornerback situation for the Packers is somewhat uncertain. Charles Woodson may eventually move to safety, which Sam Shields really struggled last year. Hosley is a player we absolutely love, and think is one of the more underrated prospects in the draft. 90. Jonathan Massaquoi, DE/OLB, Troy - Jonathan Massaquoi enters the draft with only two years of college experience under his belt. He's a developmental prospect for sure, but has a very high ceiling. Shea McClellin, LB, Boise State - He’s got the ability to play both inside and out for the Packers and brings the kind of motor, intensity and relentless as a pass rusher they are looking for. Mychal Kendricks, LB, California - The Packers continue to build the defense. Now the have someone across from Clay Matthews as well as next time him. I am really loving the moves that Ted is making this offseason , i mean Saturday was the best possible replacement for Wells and Muir and Hargrove will give our D-Line depth that we have not had for a couple of seasons. I am really interested in what the Packers do in the draft this year , do we go for a ROLB to help Clay or do we try and find someone to be a cornerstone defensive end or do we go secondary?

A couple years ago I complained when Mike McCarthy was hired and Sean Payton was overlooked as the Packers coach. I am so glad that MM won the job. Besides guiding the Pack to a Super Bowl, we don't have to suffer Bounty Gate. Hindsight is 20/20, but TT has made some great decisions. Hated to see Wells leave, but Saturday still has a lot of football left in him, and has class. Go Pack!!!!

So we decided to give Finley a 2 year contract extension huh ? I hope that it is incentive driven or we may have to cut bait with him after his contract is up. And who is going to get the franchise tag ? Flynn , i would say yeah but without having a trade partner already set up i am kinda nervous about giving 14 mil to a back up QB. Oh well lets hope Ted finds some stars in this years draft and that Nick Collins comes back as strong as ever.

I know that everyone is commenting in both directions about franchising Matt Flynn, but I think it makes sense to do it. If you watched many of the starting QBs last year, Flynn is at least better than half of them. He has been trained by one of the best system's out there. He is ready and I think that most football people know that and that is why someone will take the chance and trade for him. Have you heard what St. Louis might get so a team can get RG3? Flynn is trained and has played in the NFL. Many great college QBs don't make it to that level. At least we know Flynn can.

Another crummy year of NFL Hall of Fame picks, and yet another Jerry Kramer snub. What's wrong with these people? Kramer was an All-Pro five times, and a member of the NFL's 50th anniversary team in 1969, but surprisingly, even after appearing on the list of finalists ten times since becoming eligible, has not been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. So.... someone was telling me that they're still playing football. I didn't believe it... but I'm pretty sure I saw it myself last Sunday.

Wow! I though football season ended 9 days ago.

I'm still fairly confident that's true... Football is over.

Where do you even begin?. Everyone I am sure has something about it that will drive them crazy.

Future is beyond bright but it hurts. We did not show up today and play, no excuses.

Only bright spots and they were too few were Bishops hits, The way Starks ran .( He is what we need more of in a runner, someone who does not always run right into people and hope for the best) and of course Driver showing the other guys how to CATCH anything thrown your way,

What was most hard to take was lack of urgency. Noone seemed to want to tackle as if their lives depended on it, Hold the ball the same way. And this AFTER the Giants were poking at the ball all game!!!

One thing I never want to see again other than the way the DB gave up the hail Mary)is a Grant run or Finley drop. Grant either runs like the first play (and not often enoug) or straight right into the tacklers!!

Offseason plan number 1: Either drop Grant or make him watch over and over old Jim Brown film and learn how to run hard and look to hit people first, instead of waiting for tacklers to come and let them strip ball from him, We had a chance even after all the mistakes but that was the proverbial final nail in the end !

What a crappy game. Dropped passes? Fumbles? We gave up a hail mary for God's sake? We sucked the entire game. One way or another this team was not mentally into it.

I don't even blame McCarthy. He could see it, but there was nothing he could do. We were a step slow all game long. I think he had damn good ideas in the onside kick and going for that 4th down. Anything to wake them up. Maybe it was the rust from the rest. Maybe they were all freaked out by the Philbin tragedy. Don't know. But this was by far the worst performance of the year at the worst possible time.

Now, we have to do something with this excuse for a defense. We need D linemen. We need a ROLB. We need to replace Charlie Peprah with anybody.

But we still have the best QB in the league, and we'll be back. The march to Super Bowl 47 begins.

In all of our hearts we fully understood the defense was terrible. We counted on the offense to play near perfect the entire season. The last game the defense played the way they always had been playing and the offense played a poor game. Game Over!! The lack of defense concerned us all year but we hoped against hope that there would be a post-season spark. On the positive side - 15 wins still made a great season.

Mike Holmgren had a class for the players to help them transition to life after football.... I wonder if there are any of the notes left to share with us. Winter just got a little longer.

Rodgers was in no way at fault. He tried his best, but the WRs were rusty from sitting two weeks when they should have been out there against the kitties in Week 17. Poor guy looked like Tom Brady last season trying in vain to throw and all of his receivers were covered by the Jets. We also probably underestimated the Giants and didn't try hard enough. They were not only motivated, but as an outdoor cold weather team they had no problems playing here.

One other thing I hadn't seen mentioned in the comments so far. Did anyone else notice the disturbingly high amount of blue in the stands? It looked like at least 30% of the crowd were Giants fans. In fact, there were more there than in 07.

....still sick over what I saw last night....stunned...and now I read reports today that Driver may not be back next year....can this get any worse?? Driver's played his entire career here, and plays his heart out each and every time he's on the field...I hope the front office doesn't give him the boot just because his numbers are down now that there are new receivers to share the workload...that isn't a reflection on his abilities and what he does for this team.

Now to prepare for the lonnnng summer....sigh...

WOW, what an underwhelming performance........starting with the positive I have to say Driver is awesome, the slant catch for a needed 1st down and the late touchdown when the game was really getting ugly was great but what I really appreciated about both of those plays was the way he passed on the celebrations.......

I have always thought it was pure ignorance (not to mention self serving and completely out of touch with reality) when players celebrate when their team is getting their asses handed to them. the offensive line did a decent job of keeping Rodgers upright (the run blocking needs alot of off season work though) there was a hint of what our running game could be next season and the defense did knock manning on his ass a few times where I was surprised to see him get back up. that being said.......

I've given up on defending finley for his less than mediocre play, the dude needs to just shut his mouth and make use of the talent that we all know he has (but apparently refuses to use on game day) Rodgers had probably the worst game of his albeit short career (it was cool to see him running for first downs instead of sliding and I'm not worried at all about him next season as I'm sure he is pissed and will take it out on the secondaries of everybody next year........

bend don't break is a bullshit excuse for trying for the glory of the individual getting a turnover instead of solid coverage and tackling so I don't want to hear that crap anymore about the turnover ratio while giving up miles of yardage (and it sure looked to me like we lost the turnover battle yesterday) all in all just a sad day wasting the #1 seed and home field for the nfc championship and with seeing how weak the AFC is this year for sure back to back superbowl wins........

now I get to hear it from these dumbass niner fans for at least another week.......... Let's hear it for the superbowl 47 champion Green Bay Packers........GO PACK GO!!!!!!!!!

As Vince Lombardi use to say "nobody wins every game". During the regular season every team has a bad game. Sunday against the Giants was a wrong time for our beloved Packers to have a bad game. We enjoyed more highs than lows this season but our season has come it a quick end, one and done.

Changes are surely coming to the team that played Sunday. Donald Driver was ready to play and had a good game, I'm glad he scored a touchdown in what was probably his last game in a Packer uniform, he's a pro's pro and has been a class act for the young guys to follow.

Finley on the other hand I just don't know, so much talent but too many mistakes, dropped balls changes to his route. This weekend showed how big of an impact a tightend can have in the game. Finley's play didn't match the play of Jimmy Graham, Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez or Vernon Davis. Finley just seems to be too immature, too much look at me and not enough watch how we win. There's a big decision for Thompson coming on Finley. I say put the Franchise Tag on him and see what happens next year but if a long term contract is worked out structure it so if Finley doesn't grow out of his present behaviors the tie can be cut. Too bad Quarless hurt his nee so bad at the end of the season.

Chad Clifton looks like he will not be back next year, thanks for the memories.

What a difference a year made in A.J. Hawk's play! He never was much more than steady but he quickly turned into a liability this season. Time to part ways.

The 2011 Packer defense lacked something in all but one game this year and ultimately ended a chance for another championship. So if there's anyone still wondering about the old adage "Defense Wins Championships" look at which teams are playing for their Division Championships. New England is the only poor defense playing, they have Brady and Belichick the guys with best experience at hiding warts and finding holes.

Hopefully Thompson and staff can find some D-lineman and Outside Linebacker with pass ability in the draft. A cornerback and safety are needed as well. For that matter maybe a hard evaluation on this year's defensive players needs to be done. Seems the "D" got slow and old over night.

You've got to wonder how many Coaches will be moving up and onward from McCarthy's staff. The passing of Joe Philbin's son was a tragedy and possibly affected the Team's play against the Giants. Sometimes change is good and some fresh ideas on the defense certainly couldn't hurt.

All said and done 2011 was a great year for Packer Fans let's hope for a better 2012 season.

This game was lost before the teams stepped on the field.....I formed that opinion after hearing B.J. Raji call the Giants O-line "soft" to the national media. B.J. is a very good player, or more specifically, can be when he has his head on straight and is hungry to win football games. All season long, B.J. mocked opposition, and referred to their Champion status to anyone who would listen.

That was last year, B.J.!

Young teams are nice as they never lack for enthusiasm, but they hurt when they lack dedication. This team, in some important ways, lacked dedication to this season....figuring it was theirs to have, they spent last years capital instead of investing in this year's journey.

Sam Shields...last year an up and coming star. This year, nowhere to be found when it mattered.

Charlie Peprah....you can use your arms to tackle!

Erik Walden.......Houdini never disappeared this swiftly.

Jermichael Finley....you just played your way out of a huge payday. I can cite 6 TEs that make you look below average.

There are more, but this is enough.

Last year, young and hungry. This year young and with heads in clouds.

Let's hope the hunger returns, and that TT spends the majority of his draft on defense....and that he drafts guys who realize you can use their arms to tackle instead of pinballing off the opposition.

Defense wins championships ! Worst defense in the league and 3rd best offense just didn't do it this season. Plus the long layoff for Rodgers and taking the last game of the season as a vacation day didn't help either. In Lombardi's day that would have been unheard of. Wasted season. Squandered home field with a one and out showing. Very disappointing ! Would have rather lost during the run last season. To be beaten by a team that you've beaten once and are clearly better than bring back shades of 2007 !

We should have known that cake schedule and crap-tastic defense was going to come back and bite us. And we can't even blame Brett Favre this time. Aaron finally gets to play in the postseason at home and this happens. Vince is looking down from heaven and facepalming at Mike McMeathead. Trying to go for it on 4th and 7. Such genius. A high school coach would have been smarter than that.

Only two things can be said about this horrific end to our season. First, MM needs to be fired right now. Second. Please beat the Giants next week, Frisco. Do it for us.

The time has come to put the chips all in on both sides of the ball for our Packers. The 15-1 record serves nothing more now but home field advantage. A great season can become an awesome season with three more wins. No reason to hold anything back in this game against the GI-Ants. Hopefully the Packer defense plays well and the O-line continues to protect A-Rod so we score more points and the Giants go home to prepare for the 2012 "regular season".

No Packer turnovers in this game along with a few Giant's turnovers sprinkled in would make for an enjoyable game.

A lot of prognosticators are pointing out that New York gave Green Bay a good game the last time these 2 teams met (in New Jersey) which resulted in a late comeback win for Aaron Rodgers and the Packer offense. I just don't see how that game has relevance for today's game at Lambeau Field. The Packers are at home, they will play better, and eventual out-score (that's all that matters) the Giants and wait for next week's playoff game.

On the Frozen Tundra, New York will find out what the true meaning of "Discount Double-check" is. Packers beat the Giants 34-24 in game that will not be as close as the final score might suggest. Go Pack Go Start The Super Bowl Roll!!!

Here's something that every Packers fan and most NFL fans can understand perfectly... and it's happening currently with the Indian Cricket team. Time for India's selectors to bite the bullet like Packers did on Favre

Just how do you follow in the footsteps of a legend? You can't, or you don't. The only way is to chart your own course, as Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers have proved over the last four National Football League seasons.

The time has come for Indian cricket to take some huge decisions, to say goodbye to a golden age and to usher in a new one whose early days are likely to be difficult.
