I thought I should take some of the heat off of BeerKid for our sort of sorted start!

I've been fighting stage 4 prostate cancer for two plus years and the sucker is getting active. Round 3 of radiation starts this week. Have been having a lot of pain, so am not able to help BeerKid much in getting our classic Packer Palace episodes in the can.

BUT, I will keep fighting, just like the Pack, and expect more of our "informed graphic commentary" in the near future.

I have known Scout since we were 6. He is the most creative out of the box thinker I have ever met. You folks have gotten a chance to enjoy it for years on PackerPalace. My prayers continue for his healing every day.

It's a day later and I'm starting to understand the true meaning of "state of shock". Really...

Between the can't make moment to moment adjustments by Coach McCarthy to save the Packer's offense in time's of crisis, to kicker Crosby who looked like he was playing the wind like he was outdoors at Lambeau Field... State of Shock!

OK, over the shock and now just laughing about this game quietly to myself within the confines of my straight-jacket. Go Pack Go!

PU !!!!! Talk about stinking up the place! Yeah there were some injuries but WTF is goin' on this year! The offense was acceptable the first but erratic the second half. Not sticking with the run enough again.

The defense appears to have regressed the last two games! Sure were playing some rookies but why in the hell is the middle of the field open so often! DJ Smith is too small and is being engulfed way too often!

Great win Sunday by our Pack! This week they were able to overcome the opponent (Saints) and the Officials (the professional ones) to stand at 2-2 after four games, a tough hard fought battle.

It’s pretty obvious though that this Packers team is searching for an identity on both offense and defense with improvement needed from each unit.

At the end of 2010 and for most the 2011 seasons the Packers offense arguably had the NFL’s best passing offense. The Packers offense carved up opposing defenses with amazing ease. One thing though about the NFL is that every team has great athletes and smart coaches who devise schemes to counter the opponent’s scheme whether it’s offense or defense. Whatever worked last year, last week or even during the game for that matter will be scrutinized and plans devised to counter act what the other team is doing well.

Some teams just have elite players at key positions that are performing at the top of their game and those teams just seem to be able to inflict their will against whatever their opponents do to try and stop them. But nothing lasts forever! The NFL also is an acronym for NOT FREAKING LONG, which is applied to players and coaching careers if they can’t keep up with the changes that occur every week or during each game.

That all said, the time has come for the Packers offense to morph with the times and wise up to the way opposing defensive schemes have evolved that are now exposing weaknesses. Opponents have solved the Packers big play passing offense as well as their timing passing game. Aside from Jordy Nelson the Packer receivers are less than 6’ tall. Yes James Jones is a bigger bodied guy and Jermichael Finley is 6’-5” but those two guys drop too many balls and can’t beat press coverage regularly either this year!

It’s time for Packers offensive brain thrust to devise some running plays and that the player caller stays with running plays the entire game. Teams with good defenses have rendered the Packers offense not that much of a scoring threat. This year the Packer offense is scoring about 14 points less than year! Why, because the opponent’s defensive backs lock onto the Packers receivers at the line and even if a receiver breaks free there’s a Safety there to help. In short the Packer receivers have been stymied by aggressive tight coverage and when you add to that any team that can rush the passer with four defenders the Packer offense has struggled finding where to throw the ball. Here's a news flash "teams that make the playoffs have good defenses!"

Sure teams will stack the line of scrimmage eventually to stop the run but when they do play action passes will solve that defense. The run game maybe coming back in Green Bay after some success the last two games, let’s hope it gets more opportunities this season.

The Packer defense needs to devise rushes or blitzes that free up Clay Matthews. Matthews was relentless in his pass rushing again against the Saints. It didn’t matter how many blockers were assigned to hit Matthews he just kept coming as hard as he could on every play.

It’s been back to back games though where the opponent’s offense has schemed Matthews outside rushes successfully. What I haven’t seen enough of is stunting by the Packers defensive line to give Matthews an advantage in his pass rushes. Matthews is giving total effort in whatever Capers asks him to do in hope that someone else will beat their defender and get to the quarterback.

Well it’s been four games and no one on the Packers defense has stepped up or shown they’re able to beat the blocking scheme matched against them, Matthews is the only guy getting to the quarterback consistently. So design schemes where Matthews isn’t wasting his efforts. I only saw one stunt where Matthews started outside and then twisted to the “A gap”, the play resulted in Matthews only sack. Why not do more line stunts?

Let’s all hope the winning continues this season but the Packers need to make changes in their schemes on offense and defense before they can be considered an elite team. The times have caught up with the Packers how will they respond?

Yeah that was an ugly finish to last week's game, but today the 1-2 Packers get the 0-3 Saints at Lambeau and one would think that the Packers are pissed off enough to blow New Orleans off the field.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking... The Packers offense is at least equal if not a little better than the Saints offense. The Pack's defense is definitely better than New Orleans defense, and with the Ghost of Lombardi hanging over the field that should lead to a game that's close early on, but then stretches out into a 33-17 Green Bay win.
