Speak Out Spew Off... It's The OTA's
As the Packers head into one their Off-Season Team Activities (OTA's) this week, a great place to get caught up is from a post over at Green Bay Press Gazette - Roundup: Follow today's OTA where under the Roster Breakdown section you have the links for each of the positions and a bit of breakdown on the players currently on the roster and which player is competing for what and against who-ever, whatever. A nice graphic from over at JSOnline's 3-4 Packer defense: At a glance which may help you interpret what each defensive players new responsibilities as far as gaps and directions may be as the Packers, under new defensive coordinator Dom Capers transition from last year's 4-3 defense to the 3-4 alignment. So far, the biggest change is Aaron Kampman standing up to be one of the LB's now. Click on that thumbnail over to the right to get the bigger, easier to read image. BeerKid - Always Pack For Life! |
| _______________________ Vikings' great Tarkenton calls Favre's actions despicable
"He told the Packers [after 2008 that], ‘I'm retiring,'" Tarkenton said. "They've got to move on. They've got to go through their offseason plan, their workouts, they go with the other quarterback [Aaron Rodgers], who is a good player, and then [Favre] comes back and says, ‘I think I want to play.' . . . You build your team in the offseason. Everybody knows that. It's about team. It's not about Brett Favre. So he goes and runs up to the Jets, doesn't even dress in the locker room with the players. Has a separate facility. Playing quarterback is about the relationships you have with your coaches, with your players, with your trainers, with your managers. How can you do that if you show up on gameday and you haven't put the time in? And now he's trying to do it again in Minnesota. And if Minnesota bites, God bless them. . . . "He's been a great player, there's no question about it, but it's all about him. It is supposed to be all about your team. If you're going to be the quarterback of your team, you need to be there in the offseason workouts in March and April. Peyton Manning's there. Tom Brady's there." "I think [Favre] has been a great flamboyant quarterback, but he has made more stupid plays than any great quarterback that I've ever seen," Tarkenton said. "Look at his final game in a Packers uniform [the 2007 NFC title game]. He blew that game against the Giants. He's playing against Eli Manning. I love Eli Manning, but he's still not a great quarterback. He's not Peyton yet, or Tom Brady. He's just a guy. And [the Packers] are playing at home, and they're in a tight situation, they went to overtime and [Favre] throws the interception that allows [the Giants] to come back and win the game." Fran Tarkenton _______________________ It's not over. Ted has to go and Brett must come back. Brett can still play plus he has a chip on his shoulder. Come on fans to the streets and protest this slap in the face. Let Brett play 1 year then make him the GM. Its the right thing to do! Dan I love the old packers, from Nebraska _______________________Hey Beerkid, I recently attended a "Border Battle" (Twins vs. Brewers) at the Humpty Dump with my daughter and I spotted this guy and his sign. You've gotta love those Brewer fans. You couldn't throw a rock in the dome without hitting a Brewers fan holding two (or more) beers in his/her hands. BTW, The Twins swept the series. Never ever forget the cost of freedom and please never take it for granted. I thought this was beautifully evidenced yesterday by the dear girl who was imprisoned in Iran who kept herself sane by singing the Star Spangled Banner in her Iranian cell, and kissed the ground and cried for her freedom upon return to the USA yesterday. Welcome home honey! My eternal gratitude to all our brave soldiers down through the centuries, I am sure all of our families have been touched, often more than once, by this cost of freedom to which I earlier referred. More Technical Difficulties...
For that small group of you that recently saw the parking-page when you stopped by this morning and started wondering where the hell we went... well we didn't go anywhere of our own volition. Instead, our host provider, first get out your 10-foot poles if you're planning to touch, Bizland.Com, decided to park our website this morning. Great default choice there guys!!! I loved Bizland for years, but they have done a bunch of crazy shit this year over passwords, new profile settings that default wrong, etc etc etc... that I'm close to jumping ship away from their services. For additional praise, my thanks goes to the nice young lady at Network Solutions, yes they charge an arm and a leg for PackerPalace.com but they did pick up the phone within 5 minutes, and within 2 minutes I was informed that it was Bizland's issue that was screwing up everything. Difficulties resolved and I didn't even need to go to our on-site IT Guy's help, which is a good thing, because Norbert always drinks the rest of my beer when he's over "helping out" with any computer problems and those last 2 Torpedo Extra IPA's are for me to drink today. In regards to the picture of the typewriter company Corona's version of a suitcase sized Lugg-able, I guess they called it a Portable Computer. Our office called it Lugg-able. I actually worked on one those things for years, it was dragged around everywhere to client sites, and at the end of it's life you had to tap the hard-drive casing lightly and repeatedly to get the thing to boot-up. World's Greatest Liar... (almost humor)
| Pinocchio, Snow White, and Superman are out for a stroll in town one day. As they walked, they come across a sign: "Beauty contest for the most beautiful woman in the world." "I am entering!" said Snow White. After half an hour she comes out and they ask her, "Well, how'd ya do?" "First Place!" said Snow White. They continue walking and they see a sign: "Contest for the strongest man in the world." "I'm entering," says Superman. After half an hour, he returns and they ask him, "How did you make out?" "First Place," answers Superman. "Did you ever doubt?" They continue walking when they see a sign: "Contest! Who is the greatest liar in the world?" Pinocchio enters. After half an hour he returns with tears in his eyes. "What happened?" they asked. "I finished 3rd, who in the hell are Brad Childress and Brett Favre?" asked Pinocchio. **** joking joking just joking and maybe a little harsh on BC and BF... I guess you can't say that talking out of both sides of your mouth and withholding information is technically lying. joking joking just joking. **** I was going to elaborate some more and make light of this whole what is "BF up to this week... and I just don't have the energy to even care what he does anymore, blah blah blah. Brett ol' buddy, play if you want to, play for the Vikes if you want to. I'll just leave it at the hi-jacked joke up above and look forward to upcoming offseason workouts and the eventual start of training camp for the Green Bay Packers. ![]() BeerKid - Still Pack 4 Life! __________________________________ You may hate me for this one, but check out my mad rap skilllllzzzz: http://packerslounge.com/2009/05/15/purple-pills/ BobbyOShea __________________________________ Chucky to replace Kornhole!!!! Technical Issues Resolved...
| ________________________________ A lot of craps been said, I even said some of it...but you can't be a Packer Fan and place anyone, any single player, coach, administrator, above the team. You also can not, absolutely can not, say your embarrassed to be a Packer Fan, regardless of who the GM is or what the circumstances are. So, excited about the defense's direction, the OLine opportunities, ARod and the offense! SCHRADES ________________________________ Brett Favre Mails Arm To Vikings May 14, 2009 | | Onion Sports
________________________________ Hey Beerkid... As you know I reside near the outskirts of Minneapolis and let me tell you, a lot of Vi-Queen fans want to see Brett in a God Awful Purple uniform, but just as many would rather not see it happen at all. When the news was first circulating about his possible un-retirement #2 (Now for the record, his un-retirement #1 still falls on the shoulders of the "Village Idiot" at 1265 Lombardi Avenue since TT forced Brett into retirement before he was 100% ready)... but I digress. I like to call this current stage in Brett's prestigious HOF career the "What The Favre" stage. Okay, everyone together… "WHAT THE FAVRE?!" (a.k.a. WTF!) It seems amazing to me that Da-Queens organization are holding onto the hope that OUR (And always will be the PACKERS) number 4 (3xMVP), soon to be 40 year old in October QB will lead them to another Super Bowl.... Loss that is. Brett needs to ask himself, "Self, why don't I just remain retired instead of battling myself back into a long season only to find the team I am a part of SUCKS as does the Head Coach, the stadium (a.k.a. The Humpty Dump) and the fans, and possibly go on to win the NFC Championship but only to lose the Super Bowl?" Brett will soon find out how the fan base (or lack there of) around here for Da-Queens is piss poor and he will miss the loyalty of our beloved GREEN BAY PACKERS fans (In good times or bad, Loyal to the F'n core)!! With that said, it will be interesting to see how this plays out. I will say for the record that my family and I are still planning on a trip to Canton when Brett is inducted, I will still respect the man, the player and the legend should he decide to step out of retirement and sign with Da-Queens and I will thank God everyday that it's only Da-Queens as the team in question, and not Da-Bears. GO PACK GO and Brett please remain on your rider mower and enjoy your first of many "off seasons" with your family. See you in Canton Amigo! PACKER PAUL - Minneapolis, MN. ________________________________ I'm not sure how applicable this is but there seems to be all this debate over Brett and if he's doing the right thing and why I should or should not condemn him for what he's doing. Personally, it's this simple for me: Brett played in GB effectively forever. Near the end, things got crappy for him with management. (Never the fans, as I recall.) Judging by his actual late-season stats recently, it's looking more and more like TT might have been right about him as a player. (Gulp!) But then there's the issue of how I'm supposed to "feel", as a Packer (and a Brett Favre) fan. Briefly, I'm upset. His actions might not be patently wrong and he might be well within his legal rights to do whatever he wants, but the fact remains that it sucks. There are many things I can legally do to people to make them not like me, and that's what Brett appears to be doing. That said, it's his choice. Likewise, it's my choice to feel betrayed and a bit pissed. I know the BF apologists will tell me how TT treated him unfairly - but I just don't care. He has millions upon millions of dollars that our fandom paid him to help heal his hurt feelings. His fans did nothing to hurt him. In fact, there were factions of us trying in vain to get him back to Green Bay. However, by these actions, it's us who are made to pay. It seems sometimes the problem is that people are so concerned about if they are "allowed" to do something that they rarely stop to think if they "should". Monkey ________________________________ WOW, Maybe I am over estimating the Packers, but last year seems to be an annomally compared to the NFC Championship run in 07. Raji immediately upgrades the D-line and will make everyone better including Jenkins. With Harrel and Jolly playnig ends this D-line has the makings to very good for many years. This new defense should allow Barnett,Hawk to become better playmakers. Remeber we only lost four games by less than 4 pts and two in OT, with the injuries last year and hard schedule it is easy to see why 6-10 was the result. With this years schedule there is no reason to get off to a 8-0 record. I may be Ted Thompsons only fan on the planet, He doesnt spend carelessly in FA, rather he saves the $$ to sign our own valuable players, i.e. Greg Jennings and Nick Collins. His drafts have been great!!! this years draft especially. The only regrets I have are two. 1. Releaseing the punter Ryan one week before the opener(cost us valuable field position in several games) and 2. Letting Tracy White LB go and watch our special teams desinergrate, I never did like Mike Stock anyhow. This team is primed to be a great team. We could of had Alex Smith(who?) QB instead of Rogers. As far as Favre goes, let him go to the Vikqueens, I know its business but Favre cant seem to ride into the sunset. I think his shoulder is toast, and he will ultimatlely embarass himself by trying to play again. Dont get me wrong, I love Favre the GB Favre, my mancave is totally dedicated to him, however enough is enough. I would have took the 20 million from the Packers to stand on the sidelines and in the pressbox and do PR things the Packers wanted him to do. I am very disappointed that most publications have the Packers finishing third behind Minnesota and Chicago. I think they are a Playoff team, with the easy schedule and some luck we could go 11-5 this year. Go pack Go!!!!!!! Packman ________________________________ First of all I wanna say that this whole Favre saga is annoying me. I understand his motives for wanting to play for the Queens, but I feel he should move on from his anger at the Packer organization. In my opinion his better move would be to stay retired and vow to never show his face in Wisconsin ever again especially after TT is gone. Or go to work with any division rival as a coach or in the front office. It would be weird cheering for the slaying of Favre when they take on the Green and Gold and partly feeling like you are giving Thompson the satisfaction. But he would be for the hated Purple. As for the new 3-4 for defense. I think it is a brilliant move. Granted there will be some growing pains the first year or two but over all it is a step in the right direction. That style of defense in my opinion is way more intimidating that the 4-3. Jared S ________________________________ I am a Packer fan, I was a #4 fan until he showed that when TT wouldn't let him play, GM, Coach, and QB; he was just a little spoiled child. He used to just want to play football, now he has sunk into a Diva that wants only to hurt the people who worshiped him. He is destroying what could have been a wonderful legacy. So Sad!!! dfarmer ________________________________ Long time Packer fan won't be happy with Packers until thompson is out of here! Creek ________________________________ I hate being a "PACKER FAN".I hate Ted "The SHAM" Thompson and I'm ashamed of being a Packerfan. Now I understand why S(aints) fans used to wear paperbags over their heads.Cant even imagine what its like to be a Lion or Bengal fan feels like. But, I got a stinking suspicion Im gonna know. These will be the darkest days til The "SHAM" is gone. chilwil86 ________________________________ I'm also Packers Fan first. As a matter of fact, I'm the most loyal Packers Fan there is! Proof you ask? I think the gasoline soaked Wranglers used as kindling to ingnite the flames that now engulf my 500Z, Zero Turn, 3-blade, OHV Twin, Snapper mower speaks for itself. Speak Out Spew Off...
The New York Jets release their retired 2008 Pro Bowl QB* and the speculation from all of us football analysts is that he's coming back. He's coming BAAAAAACK!!!! OMG!!!! He's joining the VIIIIIIIIIIIIIIKES!!! Maybe... but all my previous animosity aside towards all sides in this former matter... I just wanted to say I'm hoisting a frosted cold beer in BF's direction, "here's to you No. 4", because I for one, want your arm injury to heal and your personal trainer to get you back into shape so you can make the proper decision... about playing another year in the NFL for the team of your choice. Get on that plane from Hattiesburg to Minneapolis and Please Please Pretty Please, choose the Vikqueens... BeerKid - I Want To Be, In Anarchy! *** With 22TD's and 22INT's the AFC apparently has different standards for their pro-bowl QB's then the NFC does... BK ______________________________ He's not going to the Queenies. I'd love for someone to point out a quote of him saying he wanted to play for the Vikings last year. Everyone keeps saying that by talking to their coaches he implied it. I'm not so sure. He could have asked them anything. I don't remember Favre ever commenting directly that he WANTED to play for the Queens. And I just don't see it happening this year. All the Favre haters are just looking or more fuel to pour on the dying embers. Now, Michael Vick I can see being a perfect fit in MiniCrapPaulis! BeerScout ______________________________ C'mon BeerScout... here's an article from when he was in GB but the Pack wouldn't let him report as they tried to trade him:
Chris Mortensen - ESPN - August 5, 2008 - Favre says of situation: 'This probably isn't going to work' http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/trainingcamp08/news/story?id=3520064 You're not supposed to kick a sleeping dawg... so why are we talking about this again??? Oh yeah, I brought it up... sorry. BeerKid - Always Pack For Life!!! ______________________________ Yes, but annoyingly not a direct quote by Favre...not sure how to read that. Is the reporter adding that, implying it, or did Favre say it? I'm not saying he didn't, but it's not a quote exactly. BeerScout ______________________________ ...and BF loves TT!!!! It's true!!! Has to be...There's no direct quote to suggest that he doesn't. BeerKid - Still Pack For Life!!! |
I personally think it would be hilarious to see Favre come back and play for the queens. In the sense that it would embarrass TT so bad! JONNY C Hey Jonny - we agree, I want BF to play in Minnesota too... only I think he would embarrass himself... but he's welcome to keep playing. You always to wonder what would have happened if BF had never quit that 1st time... he was the starting QB of the GBP going into off-season camps coming off a 13-3 year. There were no questions about that, and he quits... he should have just kept his mouth shut and participated lightly in every off-season camp. Some day I should really vent on the subject and annoy the hell out of everyone by putting up a 10,000 word rant as the only post for a month. What BF and his agent did to the Packers last year is almost a step-by-step manual on how to get released from your team. Hell, the same agent, Bus Cook did it this year to the Broncos with Cutler. Wake up!!! It's OK to be pissed at everything because BF quit on the Packers.... just quit blaming everyone else and get over it. BK ______________________________ IF he can overcome a torn biceps, and IF Colonel Klink is loony and desperate enough to persue this folly, and IF all those unsubstanciated gossip mongering rumors surrounding Favre's hatred of TT are true, |
![]() | ![]() | ![]() |
then the Mangina Domequeens should get their marketing department on it right away. The worst that could happen is he would "spice up" the NFL North. Jim ______________________________ Can the Packers continually unretire Favre's number, too? Elihu Hey Elihu, yes, the Packers could do anything they wanted to with any number... you can re-tire a number and re-use it at the same time... and then dealing with any potential back-lash that would result if they did something stupid. When Reggie White retired, the Packers didn't retire his number, although GM Ron Wolf said that no player would ever wear 92 while he was in charge... GM Mike Sherman echoed that commitment... finally officially retired in September 2005. I think the funniest thing I read last year about no. 4, was that if the Packers really, really wanted to stick-it back to BF, they would assign no. 4 to the rookie street free-agent WR that shows up 12th on the camp depth charts, thus guaranteeing that no. 4 would be cut every year. No player will be assigned no. 4 in Green Bay ever again... BF rode that number into permanent retirement. BK ______________________________ My favorite draft pick - None of them. It's the free agent signing of wide receiver Jamarko Simmons. Here's what the young man told the Milwaukee JS on 4/27:
Boz (sunday 10am) Norbert, our on-site Technical Administrator said that something was going on over at our ISP where we couldn't upload files due to an erroneous "device out of space" error and yet, we still could somehow manage to change and damage the existing files already there... anyway, for those of you who saw some of the 2 hours of carnage (and we know that 202 visitors stopped by, 90 were surely us trying to troubleshoot, so that leaves 112 to be...) and eventually saw the 2009 Schedule that Norbert renamed to be the home page for awhile... well, we could do little else. Finally, Sharon, one of our off-site IT Administrators contacted us to give us the "all is well" signal and with a quick republish, we were able to refresh the damaged pages and everything seems to be A.O.K. for now. Well, except we lost the last 2 weeks of statistics, so if all of you, could respend your visits and time and reduplicate the last 2 weeks. Norbert assures that would be of tremendous help in getting Packer Palace back on course to tracking down the eventual 2 millionth visitor for an award. Otherwise, it's going to be an guess-timate on which visitor is going to be the lucky winner, sort of like what happened with the 1 millionth visitor award we handed out. Thanks to everyone for your patience and for their assistance... BeerKid After a 0-16 season the Lions have an updated logotype and refreshed overall look. No matter how you spin it their still the same old-JIM Dammit Jim, can't you see we're trying to talk about BF this week, and not how bad the Detroit Lions are... "Culpepper looks great! Down to his rookie weight of 279" hahaha haha or whatever his weight is, eh. Oh, you can find several more goofy joke team logos from Jim and our own creations here at Packer Palace - Joke Logo's - or check out Jim's full collection over at the National Parody League. BK ______________________________ Hey BeerKid............. Some things never change. It's spring and here we are with the "will he-won't he" again. Maybe, big maybe, Favre can stick it to TT, but the Pack can stick it to him also. They don't have to put his number up. And as a Packer defense, they'd have to take it a little personal cause Favre would be sticking it to them also. Be hard to imagine them not bringing their absolute best game for those two. I think the draft worked out pretty well!!! Long Live the Pack!!! Hey LLtP, yes, it would be fun to watch the Packer D knock BF down, oh they'd offer him a hand to get back up, and then knock it him down again the next play, repeat repeatedly.... BK ______________________________ What price for no.4 to show up on Nov 1st ? wearing a Viqueens uniform ?Bobby Hey Bobby, tough question, I pay alot to watch the new Packers "D" pound an old guy into the ground... but I'd rather spend the money on beer and watch the game for free. BK ______________________________ Man I LOVE this team! Love football! Love sundays and Bar-B-Q!!! GO PACK GO!!...But I hate the b@%rs, they suck like soccer, mondays and old sushie You too vikings! and that other team that NEVER wins. PACKERS RULE!!! Big Ern said so!!!! Hey Big Ern, two of the foundations of life.... Bears Suck and the Packers Rule. All else becomes trivial... BK ______________________________ Camp, The Packers may be young but they already have lots of experience. Last year saw no rookie starters and nearly all starters have experience deep into play-offs, so I don't agree that they need to get FA's for veteran leadership. It's already in place. Kampman, Woodson, Harris, Barnett, Driver, Clifton, etc. ScottS ______________________________ Kevin Greene played at 6'3" 247lbs. Clay Matthews is 6'3" 240. Does anyone think the Packers took him especially for Greene to groom in his own image? I hope so. ScottS Hey ScottS, any LB they took they were going to mold in Kevin Greene's image... I still love his quote "Any LB I coach isn't going to be some finesse rusher from the end, he's going to be a tough-guy we can use anywhere" that quote is probably paraphrased a bit... you have to love the attitude. BK ______________________________ Favre gets his release from the Jets... Elihu Hey Elihu, Did you see BF's quote - Nothing has changed. At this time, I am retired and have no intention of returning to football.” Brett Favre - it had the words "at this time" embedded in the middle of it. BK ______________________________ |
